A new adventure tour follows the path of a famous canine through the red-dirt country.

In the Red Dog Postie Bike Challenge, the brainchild of Daniel Crabbe and Alan Morgan, adventurers will jump on a motorbike in Paraburdoo, and follow Red Dog’s trail, riding through the Pilbara over nine days finishing in Dampier, all while raising money for charity.

Mr Crabbe and Mr Morgan met in 2017 when they completed the Gibb River challenge and, when they couldn’t find the next big thing, they decided to create it themselves.

“The trip is about social enterprise, not about making money,” Mr Crabbe said. “We want to be inclusive of everyone in the Pilbara and build a stronger region by promoting lots of companies, all while making a bit of money for charity on the side.”

Participants will go canyoning and abseiling in Karijini National Park, swimming at Python Pool, see the history of Cossack, learn about rock art at Deep Gorge and spend a day on the water in the Dampier Archipelago.

The all-inclusive trip costs $4580, with participants getting sponsorship from friends and family to go to Empowering People in Communities.

“We’ll only make enough money to pay the bikes off and maintain them,” Mr Crabbe said.

“If the five-year plan works we will get over $200,000 for EPIC, who are a fantastic local charity that do everything from disability to employment services.”

EPIC operations manager Tanya Gartner said initially the funds would be used for building the EPICentre, which would be the new head office and activity hub.

“We’ll be able to purchase some well-needed resources and equipment so we can provide more opportunities for people to engage” she said.

The challenge has teamed up with a range of Pilbara-based companies which will help provide the exciting activities on the tour.

“We can’t showcase the Pilbara just by postie bikes, so we wanted everyone to link together and help promote each other,” Mr Crabbe said.

The challenge will run from September 13-21 and there is an early-bird special of $3950 entry running until March 15.
